The Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center has found trace mineral deposits on some surgical instruments, forcing it to reschedule some procedures, officials said.
The center is in the process of resurfacing the instruments, according to a news release by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The release said the center is using disposable equipment for now and will resume full operations once the instruments are reprocessed.
“Because of this ongoing process, we are unable to predict when normal operations will resume,” the release said.
The medical center is looking to contract for mobile cleaning of the instruments and is discussing other cleaning options with government agencies and the community.
“We are working with our partners in the community to provide access to urgent surgical procedures to our Veterans,” the release said.
