The Adams City Eagles keep soaring.
The upstart squad, which didn’t win a game on the field from 2009-13, held on to win 24-21 over Aurora Central Friday to improve to 4-1 on the year.
It’s the first time the Eagles have started a season 4-1 since 2005.
Adams City running back Antonio Scott led the team with 198 rushing yards on 34 carries and a touchdown.
Tied 21-all late in the fourth quarter, Eagles kicker Humbert Gonzalez connected on a 31-yard field goal to give Adams City a three-point lead. On the ensuing drive, the defense came up big. Linebacker Joseph Gonzalez intercepted Central QB Austin Alvarez with a minute remaining to seal the victory.
On a side note: on the Adams City football team.
