Denver area residents should expect cooler temperatures with possible showers and thunderstorms sprinkled throughout the week, National Weather Service officials said on Sunday.

Forecasters said thunderstorms and showers could begin tonight and are likely tomorrow through Wednesday, especially in the afternoons.

With a Monday high expected around 70 degrees, and highs around 60 degrees for the latter part of the week, forecasters said cooler temperatures are on the way.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are expected to be cool, but dry.

Meteorologist Chad Gimmestad said there may be snow showers in the mountains late Sunday through Monday and again Wednesday, but he did not expect it to have much impact.
