Mark Pierson, father of Arapahoe High School shooter Karl Pierson, is interviewed at his home earlier this month. (Hyoung Chang, The Denver Post)
Re: “Phony excuse for district’s silence on Arapahoe school shooting,” Oct. 19 editorial.
The Postap editorial raises some troubling questions on the Dec. 13, 2013, shooting at Arapahoe High School, part of the Littleton School District. The shooting is not easily explained or understood.
The claims by on-site employees about how lax security was at Arapahoe High School at the time of this horrific event are certainly something that needs to be addressed.
Karl Pierson was a troubled student. How early signs of his vengeful spree were missed by school professionals is baffling, made more so by the recent story quoting his father, Mark Pierson, as saying he and his former wife had no knowledge of ever having seen, or signed, an early threat assessment by school employees.
Is it now time for an independent expert to review this terrible and heartbreaking tragedy? I would certainly and earnestly hope so.
