Chimney Choir have a campaign to raise money for the next album.

is an “evolving artistic organism” that incorporates a community of artists in its live performances. They are currently raising money for the next album, but we have an exclusive preview track for free download.

To describe Denver’s as a mere “band” is a bit limiting. Four years ago, Chimney Choir began making music as a trio with a variety of acoustic instruments and gorgeous three-part harmonies. The music was creative and fresh without wandering into the territory of novelty.

But since then, the trio has expanded to five, and the musicincorporates synth and a variety of non-traditional instruments, including random pieces of metal. Still sounds like we’re describing a band, right? Well, for overa year now, it seems the music is only an element of the Chimney Choir vision. The 2013 album “(compass)” was fully realized as a multi-discipline artistic spectacle that included puppetry, miming, ballet and ritual. The music, and the band that makes it, is a central part of the experience, but it’s only a part. It’s better to imagine the band as an element of a troupe of creatives.

Right now, Chimney Choir has one week left in anto raise $13,000 to fund its next album. They are at 50 percent of their goal after a series of art spectacle performances. In the video to support the campaign, they refer to their projects as “evolving artistic organisms” and describe the album as a “time capsule [that] marks the period of growth.” As such, it may be best to think of supporting this album as not just supporting a band, but supporting a community of artists that get to realize their own visions alongside Chimney Choir music.

With all this talk of troupes and organisms, it may be easy to forget about the music. And the music they create stands strong on its own. Chimney Choir has released a single, “Motion,” available for exclusive free download below, as an album teaser. There’s also an accompanying , which should give you an idea of what an “evolving artistic organism” is.
