A new 30-second ad from Sen. Mark Udall focuses on Republican opponent Cory Gardner’s sponsorship of a federal bill that critics say would ban abortion and outlaw common forms of birth control.
Almost everyone but Congressman Gardner agrees that the federal bill is similar to state “personhood” measures that Coloradans overwhelmingly defeated and Gardner supported in February. And the ad hammers home that theme.
“Colorado can’t just trust the real Cory Gardner,” the campaign said, in its news release.
Gardner’s campaign has blistered the Democratic senator for his in a campaign where Coloradans are talking about jobs and the economy.
The ad includes footage of two TV reporters, Fox 31’s Eli Stokols and 9News’ Kyle Clark asking Gardner about the federal bill, which would grant full legal rights at the moment of conception:
Udall: I’m Mark Udall, and I approve this message.
Narrator: As you’re making your decision, remember …
Stokols: …a bill that everybody says is basically a personhood bill at the federal level, you’re telling me itap not …
Narrator: Cory Gardner is still sponsoring the Personhood Bill in Congress. His name is right there. But Gardner just keeps denying it. Gardner’s denials even failed the independent fact check.
Clark: … and a less-charitable interpretation is that you’re not telling us the truth … ”
Narrator: Whether itap with our rights and freedoms, or his own word, Colorado just can’t trust the real Cory Gardner.
