A Littleton man was sentenced to 32 years in prison for the 2012 murder of his mother.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Darin Allen Ninneman, 33, stabbed his mother 29 times after an argument.

The office said Ninneman was high on methamphetamine at the time of the murder.

According to police reports, Ninneman went to see his mother at her friend’s home in the late afternoon of May 5, 2012.

A rehabilitation program kicked him out a couple of weeks before that, and Ninneman was living as a transient.

During the incident, neighbors said they heard a continuous thudding noise from the home, and eventually ran to help when they heard the victim screaming for assistance.

Littleton police officers arrived shortly after they were called at 6 p.m. and found the victim on the living room floor, suffering from lacerations from an 8-inch fishing knife.

She was taken to Littleton Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, which included a total of 38 total sharp force injuries.

Less than an hour after arriving on the scene, police found the defendant walking near the victim’s home with blood stains on his hands and arms.

Ninneman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Aug. 7.
