In Run the Jewels new video for “Blockbuster Night Part 1,” the gruesome twosome masquerades as EMTs who are looking to get fired. They get high, they speed, they kinda try to get a cat out of a tree (don’t firefighters do that?). There’s also an excellent reference to Jake the Snake and his infamous “DDT” move. It’s next level, cerebral hip-hop.

Directed by Trevor Kane, the video is balanced well between the flashing red lights and Killer Mike and EL-P’s traded, layered vocals. Keep an eye out for a cameo by the Black Lips’ Cole Alexander.

The video comes on the tails of in Englewood. Ahead of that with the eloquent duo:

In the interview, EL-P tells Reverb:

I also think that as an artist and as a writer, I believe that itap necessary to be tuned in, if you’re tuned into your environment, empathy, and heart, a writer will pick up on and incorporate the stresses and be able to present a real full artistic idea. This is about the eloquent translation of the human experience. I can’t ignore the sirens, the gunshots and the ringing in my ears.
