opera: Follow Hansel and Gretel’s trail for holidays
Saturday-dec. 14. The story of “Hansel and Gretel” isn’t all that Christmas-y really, but somehow it has become part of the holiday tradition. The Boulder Opera Company is offering a version this year that could serve as a nice alternative to yet another family outing to “The Nutcracker.” The local production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s tale of lost siblings and hungry witches is directed by Bjorn Arvidsson with an ensemble orchestra conducted by Mathieu D’Ordine. Singers include soprano Lindsey French, as Gretel, and mezzo Genevieve Baglio, as Hansel (yes, she plays a dude). Performances are during kid-friendly mornings and afternoons at the Broomfield Auditorium and Boulder’s Nomad Theater. Details on the website. $18 adults, $12 kids. 303-731-2036 or .
