Getting your player ready...

SAN DIEGO — While there has already been a blizzard of activity at baseball’s winter meetings, the Rockies have thus far not been part of the storm. They are talking to a lot of teams behind the scenes, but they have not yet made a public ripple, let alone a big splash.

Rockies first-year general manager Jeff Bridich is playing things close to the vest at his first winter meetings.

That could change should new GM Jeff Bridich make a move to add to the starting rotation or beef up the bullpen. I still think a trade for catcher Wilin Rosario is very possible.

Look, it’s still early and sometimes dominoes have to fall before deals get done.

In the meantime, here are a few random Rockies thoughts:

* One big-league executive who knows Bridich well described the new GM this way: “Jeff’s very methodical and sticks to his plan. He’s not going to give you much (information) and he plays it close to the vest.”

From what I’ve seen, that’s certainly true. But I’ll add that Bridich, two months into his job, seems very confident and comfortable. We’ll see how that translates into team building.

* A week ago, I was under the impression the Rockies were only interested in looking at free-agent catchers. That could be changing, as Bridich has acknowledged. But finding a trade partner and an upgrade at catcher is not easy.

For example, I brought up the Blue Jays’ Dioner Navarro as a good fit for Colorado. With the arrival of Russell Martin in Toronto, he’s available. But here is the problem: Navarro is due $5 million in 2015 (a very reasonable salary), but he’ll become a free agent after the season. So it makes little sense for the Rockies to trade for him, unless they could work out a deal.

A free agent catcher would give the Rockies a chance for a multi-year deal. The problem is, the free-agent market for catchers is very lean.

* I texted with Troy Tulowitzki today and he says he has not heard anything on the trade front. As Bridich said Monday night,
