
Zayo Group’s CEO Dan Caruso has disclosed that his prostate cancer has returned and he will undergo treatment in January.
Caruso, who was successfully treated for cancer in June 2013, said he expects to continue his duties full time with no interruption. The Boulder company builds fiber networks to office buildings.
In a letter to employees and shareholders dated Dec. 29, Caruso said a mid-December test revealed “trace amounts of cancer,” which will require treatment.
He will be going to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, which is where in 2013.
Treatment is not expected to affect his daily routine, other than restrict travel, he said.
“I feel fantastic, my energy level is 100 percent, and I am grateful to be in such capable hands,” he wrote.
Caruso, 51, supported the fight against cancer long before he was diagnosed. As a company, Zayo participated in the B Strong Ride, an annual cycling event in Boulder to honor cancer survivors and raise funds for area health groups. Last summer, Zayo not only sponsored the event, its employees raised more than $20,000 in donations.
Zayo, which Caruso launched in 2007, made a series of acquisitions over the years to become a prominent player in the broadband infrastructure industry. In October, it , raising about $400 million.
On Wednesday, Zayo’s stock was trading around $31, up from $22 on its first day of trading.
The company currently employs 1,600 people worldwide, which includes about 500 in Colorado.
