DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — A girl born two minutes into 2015 in Durango appears to be Colorado’s first baby of the new year.
The Durango Herald (http://bit.ly/1xAxsRm ) reports Evelyn Rose Gosney was born at Mercy Regional Medical Center on Thursday, just 12 minutes head of the first baby born in Denver in 2015, Kathleen Marie Hathaway.
The first babies in Colorado Springs and Pueblo didn’t arrive until a few hours later.
Also in Durango, Olympic biathlete Tracy Barnes gave birth to the last baby born there in 2014. Barnes made headlines when she gave up her spot on the U.S. team so her twin sister Lanny could go to the Sochi (SOH’-chee) Games.
Meanwhile, the Denver Zoo also had an early arrival — a zebra born early on Thursday. A naming contest is planned.
