Getting your player ready...

Win some … lose just as many. Kiz, you ask why Broncos coach John Fox doesn’t get more respect? That’s simple. It’s because he is a .500 coach. Fox has nothing to do with quarterback Peyton Manning’s talent. If Manning weren’t playing for the Broncos, Fox would still be a .500 coach.

Rob, Lakewood

Kiz: In four years on the Denver sideline, Fox has won 46 regular-season games with Manning as his primary quarterback, but also with either Tim Tebow or Kyle Orton starting a combined 16 times. The most games Dan Reeves ever won in a four-year stretch with John Elway as his starting quarterback? 45. And one more thing: The low-key Fox is a major reason Manning chose Denver over San Francisco, where ornery coach Jim Harbaugh chewed furniture before taking his talents to the Big House in Michigan.

Nuggets uncool. “Tanks” for nothing, Nuggets. If anything, this NBA team has become consistent in its lack of effort in the pursuit of the playoffs. Perhaps if fans pooled the money wasted on watching these Nuggets and instead donated that cash to general manager Tim Connelly, he could buy the team a legitimate star. I’ve spent nearly $1,500 in recent years on an out-of-market television package to watch the Nuggets. I could get central air conditioning put in my house for that kind of scratch, so please don’t tell my wife.

Jeremy, LaCrosse, Wis.

Kiz: Not to tell you how to live your life, but … with global warming lurking around the corner, air conditioning is a near necessity in a 21st- century home. The Manimal you can live without. I suggest buying a dog.

Plug pulled on fans. A big, big thumbs-down to ESPN and college football for making the College Football Playoff a pay-to-view event. Those fans who don’t subscribe to cable television and don’t want to spend most of a day in a bar were out of luck during the semifinal games. Shame on them for their disdain of their fan base that pays the bills.

John, Arvada

Kiz: We here at Kickin’ It Headquarters sometimes feel our civic duty is offering advice to the lovelorn, in the grand tradition of Dear Abby. So here goes. Dear Cableless in Arvada: Have you considered learning how to make guacamole dip? A bag of chips and a friendly knock on the door of a neighbor who actually pays for ESPN can do wonders for your knowledge of current sports events, to say nothing of your social life. Hint: Cable TV isn’t a fad that’s going away anytime soon. It’s not CB radio, good buddy.

SEC-ond rate. And today’s parting shot is a short, sweet eulogy for the way college football used to crown its national champion.

Under the BCS system, Alabama would have played Florida State for the national championship. Thank goodness that travesty of the past is gone. BTW: The Southeastern Conference cannot spell defense.

Frank, likes SEC less than BCS
