A man of prostituting a 14-year-old girl over two years was sentenced Wednesday to 112 years to life in prison.

Robert Felix Gonzales, 41, of Broomfield, met the teen in 2011 through foster-home placement and began sexually assaulting her, . Gonzales then groomed the girl to believe she was in love with him.

“Continuing into 2012 and 2013, Gonzales provided her with methamphetamine and alcohol and forced her to have sex for money or drugs with men she did not know,” the office said.

Gonzales, found guilty by a Jefferson County jury, arranged motel rooms where the sex would occur and then kept the money and drugs.

The district attorney’s office said two law enforcement officers and two members of the teen’s family spoke to the judge during the sentencing, asking for justice for the damage done to the young woman, now 17.

“Her grandmother said that, having lost both her mother and her father, the teen was just a ‘broken little girl’ when Gonzales came into her life,” the office said.

Gonzales took active steps to hide the girl from her family and police during her captivity, at times stashing her in the crawl space in his house.

The girl finally escaped after she jumped out of a moving car, according to court records. Gonzales allegedly beat the girl, police said, even breaking his hand hitting her in the face with such force.

The investigation into Gonzales’ activities was conducted by police in Arvada and the FBI Rocky Mountain Innocence Lost Task Force.
