A 23-year-old woman in Greeley who ran from her car Sunday and was found dead Monday left a 5-year-old child in the abandoned vehicle, Greeley police said Wednesday.

Investigators believe Kaley Pratt may have “been attempting to hide” for some unknown reason.

The incident started about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when an off-duty Colorado state trooper saw a vehicle stopped in the 1600 block of U.S. 85, according to Greeley police.

The trooper found a boy in the unlocked, parked car, with the motor running. The child was not harmed.

Witnesses told investigators a woman had fled the vehicle, running north toward 16th Street.

She was not immediately located. On Monday afternoon, her body was found between two grain elevators amid machinery, police said.

Results of an autopsy are pending.
