Getting your player ready...

Saturday. Before it was even called the River North (or RiNo) District, places like the Walnut Room were holding down the empty stretch of warehouses by the train tracks northeast of downtown Denver, drawing live music (and thin-crust pizza) fans to its cozy, wood-paneled environs. Now, of course, the neighborhood is hopping with bars, music venues, hipster cafes, art galleries and more, which makes founder/owner John Burr’s Walnut Room seem like a stately institution. The venue/restaurant will mark its 10th anniversary with drink specials, free appetizers (5-7 p.m.) and live music (8-11 p.m.) in one of the best-s0unding rooms in town, with free performances from Adrienne O, Andy Palmer, Roo & the Howl, Matt Hoffman (Strange Americans) and DJ Social Lubrication. 5-11 p.m. on Jan. 9. Free, 21-and-up. 3131 Walnut St. 303-295-1868 or .
