Re: “Lessons from Snowmastodon,” Jan. 4 Perspective article by Allen Best.
I love Allen Best. When I was in the legislature, he covered the mountain area of my district and kept me on my toes. However, in his article on the Snowmastodon finding at Snowmass, he omitted exactly what others have left out. The bulldozer operator who made the discovery was Jesse Steele. Without his vision and alertness, no one would ever have known what was hidden in the mud near Ziegler Reservoir. I do not know the gentleman, but am in great admiration of Jesse Steele.
