Getting your player ready...

While ice fishing is the primary angling option now, open water does exist, notably in the Poudre, South Platte, Boulder Creek and Arkansas within the urban areas. The inlets at Pinewood, Carter and Horsetooth reservoirs all have open water and shore-fishing opportunities. All three have been producing a few nice trout. Smaller waters will see some serious thinning of the shoreline with this warm spell, so use caution getting on the ice. Local reservoirs Chatfield, Aurora, Bear Creek and Cherry Creek have decent ice, but the fishing generally has been slow. A good high-country option at this time has been Green Mountain, where the action for lake trout continues to be good. Small jigs shorter than 3 inches, worked deep, have been the ticket.
