Police in Brighton are investigating a three-car crash Friday morning that left a woman dead and a man in handcuffs.
The crash happened on U.S. 85 at the intersection with 124th Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. when a Dodge pick up ran a red light and slammed into an older-model Volkswagen Beetle, hitting it broadside, officials said.
“The pickup pushed the Volkswagen into a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the northbound left-turn lane, crushing the Volkswagen between the two vehicles and causing the pickup to roll onto its side,” police said.
The Volkswagen’s driver, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said her identity is not being immediately released pending notification of her relatives.
No one else was injured in the wreck.
“Although the crash remains under investigation, there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash,” police said.
Hugo Amdujo-Martinez, 46, of Brighton, has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving resulting in death.
