Popular opinion often confuses two types of police shootings. In the first type, if police shoot an unarmed civilian who is not attacking them, then charges should be brought through the legal system. In the second type of situation, police are attacked with deadly force. Guns and cars are both deadly weapons. If anyone grabs a police officer’s gun or attempts to run over the officer with a car, that person clearly intends to kill the officer. If we do not allow police to defend themselves against deadly attacks, we will live in a lawless society — because no sane person would join the police force.
