Remember playing cops and robbers as a kid? Apparently the folks at EA, DICE and Visceral Games do.
EA launched the Battlefield Hardline Beta Tuesday and it’s here until Sunday, Feb. 8.
The removes players from harsh international warzones and places them in a more domestic struggle. Hardline pits police against criminals in high-octane shootouts through the streets of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas.
The beta features three modes. Conquest — where players attempt to control various bases in the area — makes its return. In addition, Hardline introduces two new game types in Heist and Hotwire.
In Heist, criminals attempt to break into a bank, steal money and transport the cash to a secure location while the cops try to prevent them from doing so. The game highlights the frenzy of Hardline as multiple players are drawn to just one or two points on the map.

Hotwire places a unique twist on the Conquest game mode in that the bases are cars and the cars are always moving. Hotwire offers one of the more fun vehicle-based experiences that Battlefield has to offer. Unlike previous Battlefield titles where numerous vehicles essentially means a bombardment of artillery strikes and dying mere seconds after you spawn, the vehicles in this mode don’t come equipped with any weapons. It’s up to the passengers to either kill opponents in unmarked vehicles or blow up the vehicle.
The mode also allows passenger players to stick their heads out of the car window and shoot around them. While it’s a small addition to the game, it adds a nice touch to Hardline’s fast-paced feel.
