Four construction teams are vying for the job of building the 2.3-mile from Lincoln Street to RidgeGate Parkway.
The four were unveiled Tuesday night during a meeting of the Regional Transportation District board of directors.
Seven groups initially responded to RTD’s request for qualifications. The four teams selected to bid on the project are:
• Balfour Beatty Infrastructure with Parson Brinkerhoff serving as prime contractor and performing systems and design work.
• Graham-Kraemer Joint Venture, prime contractor. Modern Railway Systems would perform systems work, and Stantec would be responsible for design.
• Kiewit, prime contractor. Mass Electric would perform systems, and Hatch Mott McDonald would do design.
• Stacy Witbeck-Herzog-Wadsworth Joint Venture. Modern Railway Systems would do systems, and STV would be responsible for design.
The final four teams will get a Request for Proposal by Feb. 27. Their proposals are due in May, and construction is slated to begin in 2016.
Last July, the RTD board approved a $207 million extension of the existing Southeast Light Rail Line farther south into Lone Tree.
RTD has applied for $92 million of federal funds and has been accepted into the first phase of the Federal Transit Administration New Starts Capital Investment Program. Also, local business associations and businesses in the southeast metro area have committed to contributing $25 million in cash and $15 million in rights of way, permits and other in-kind contributions to get the light rail extension project completed.
When completed in 2019, residents will be able to travel from the RidgeGate station on the new R Line through Aurora to Peoria Station and connect to the commuter train to DIA or travel to Denver Union Station.
