Springlike weather has really cleared the ice on many ponds and reservoirs. While a few brave souls are still icing Chatfield Reservoir and Boyd Lake, your best bet for ice fishing is to head to elevations higher than 7,000 feet. Some of the better action has been at Granby, Green Mountain, Willow Creek and North Michigan reservoirs. River anglers will find open water on the lower sections of the Poudre and South Platte. Flatiron, Lon Hagler and Horsetooth have been producing some decent trout action for shore anglers. Warm-water species aren’t biting that well on the small ponds; look for them to stage near the shallow, warmer waters. If you spot carp, there’s a fair chance other species also will be nearby and getting active.
