COLORADO SPRINGS — Mayoral candidate and former Colorado Attorney General John Suthers widened his fundraising lead in the latest campaign finance reports filed Monday with the Colorado Springs city clerk’s office.
Suthers raised $51,047 between Jan. 28 and Feb. 10. That’s more than four times as much as the $10,765.18 raised by former Mayor Mary Lou Makepeace during the same period.
Other mayoral candidates, including El Paso County Commissioner Amy Lathen and former Colorado Springs City Councilman Joel Miller, hadn’t filed reports by late Monday; the reports are due Tuesday.
“We are just overwhelmed by the breadth of support we have received in both small and large contributions from both Colorado Springs and people from Denver who are concerned about Colorado Springs. We will end up with well over 1,000 contributions by the end of the campaign,” Suthers said Monday.
