The Colorado Department of Human Services has named Charles Parkins as the new Director of the Division of Youth Corrections in the Office of Children, Youth and Families.

Parkins began his career as a detention worker in 1996. Since then, he has served in various leadership roles in Florida, Connecticut, and most recently Indiana, where he was the superintendent of the Marion Superior Court Juvenile Detention Center.

Parkins is an active member of the National Partnership for Juvenile Services and currently serves on the board of directors for the Juvenile Justice Trainers Council. His work on this council focuses on the professional development and improvement of training curriculum for juvenile justice professionals.

He begins his new duties March 16.

“Chuck brings a strong focus on helping youth develop into mature young adults while ensuring the safety and well-being of the facilities, staff and community,” said Reggie Bicha, executive director of CDHS. “His leadership and dedication will help us to progressively improve Colorado’s youth corrections system.”
