A Colorado Springs man was arrested on a felony charge Sunday night after police say he fired a rifle at vehicles outside of his home because he believed they were involved in a drug deal.
Damien Heitzer, 33, is being held at the El Paso County jail on suspicion of felony menacing in connection with the incident, jail records show.
Officers were called to the 3600 block of Monica Drive West at about 8 p.m. to investigate reports of shots fired.
Police say Heitzer “thought he saw vehicles conducting a drug deal in front of his residence and went outside armed with a rifle to confront” them.
A verbal argument followed and Heitzer fired a round toward the ground, police say, at which point the vehicles fled.
“The occupants of the vehicles left the immediate area and notified police,” investigators say.
Heitzer told police he fired the shot when he saw someone in one of the vehicles reaching into his jacket.
No one was injured in the shooting. Police did not identify anyone in the vehicles.
