The northbound lanes of Interstate 25 are back open near Monument on Monday morning after closing because of multiple accidents in the area.

Both lanes were closed at about 7:45 a.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation said. The lanes were fully reopened at about 9 a.m.

The closure happened at the Greenland exit about four miles north of Monument, according to CDOT.

The Colorado State Patrol encouraged motorists to seek alternate routes. The patrol said six or seven cars slid off the road into the median near the closure.

“Slow speeds are a must,” the patrol said on Twitter.

A CDOT camera near the closure showed dense fog at the time when the lanes were shut.
