Opens Saturday: When it opens for the season on March 7, the 16-year-old Royal Gorge Route Railroad will have a lot to celebrate. The Southern Colorado train, which travels the historic, postcard-perfect Royal Gorge route along the Arkansas River, saw a 20 percent jump in attendance last year (to about 100,000 passengers) for its sight-seeing trips and themed runs like the Murder Mystery, Santa’s Express, Mother’s Day and Oktoberfest trains. A new Colorado-centric menu and more ticket options have been added. Departs 12:30 p.m. daily through May 22; multiple daily departures through Jan. 2, 2016.
