Two men were arrested as suspects in a “pistol whipping” at Colorado Springs tavern after officers traced them through a suspect’s credit card, which was used for a bar tab.
Olufemi Gbenga Adegbesan and Willie Brian Jones-Walker were arrested as suspects in the Sunday night incident at Shots Tavern, 1831 Main Street, according to an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office media release.
Deputies were called to the tavern at about 11:30 p.m on a report of a fight involving a gun and shots fired.
When deputies arrived two men allegedly involved in the incident had fled the scene. Witnesses told deputies there had been a fight between two men and it escalated when one man pulled a handgun and pistol whipped a patron inside the tavern. Several rounds from the hand gun were fired into the air, witnesses told deputies.
One of the two men who left before deputies arrived had been running a bar tab on a credit card. The sheriff’s office traced one suspect’s vehicle through credit card information, as well as witness accounts, and the SUV was found in the area.
The two suspects were inside the SUV, which had blood on the front passenger door and seat. One of the suspect’s had hand injuries consistent with being in a fight, the sheriff’s office said.
Further details on injuries to the victim were not released.
Adegbesan was held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and felony menacing. Jones-Walker was held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, felony menacing and illegal use of a firearm.
