The U.S. Forest Service says recreational shooters are to blame for igniting two wildfires on the Pawnee National Grassland in northeast Colorado over the weekend.

The first blaze, called the Wildhorse fire, burned 19 acres on Saturday. The second fire, called the 96 fire, burned 7.1 acres on Sunday.

Both fires burned on the west side of the grassland off Weld County Road 96, the Forest Service said.

The Forest Service says it is seeking information about the Wildhorse fire and asks anyone who was near Weld County Road 96 on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to call (970) 295-6682.

Officials say a person, whose identity was not released, was cited on Sunday for igniting the 96 fire.
