The Nuggets couldn’t have picked a more special night to put on a show.

After the first quarter of , Army Staff Sgt. David Fuqua returned to surprise his family.

Staff Sgt. Fuqua has been in the Army nine and a half years and has served four deployments — three of which were combat tours to Afghanistan, Iraq and, most recently, to Monrovia, Liberia, where he was away for four months for Operation United Assistance, the mission to help fight the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

Over the years, Staff Sgt. Fuqua has been deployed for 40 months.

Previously stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and now at Fort Carson, Colo., Fuqua is a platoon sgt. with the 615th Engineer Company and 4th Engineer Battalion.




Fuqua and his wife have endured a couple of trying years since they left her home state of Texas, but after the first quarter of the Nuggets’ victory at the Pepsi Center on Wednesday, he and his family (as well as the entire arena) were all smiles as he surprised them.

Staff Sergeant David Fuqua just surprised his family at tonight’s game.
