BOULDER — It was hard to miss Liah Davis on Thursday at the University of Colorado’s Coors Events Center.
The Sand Creek junior went off for 10 points, a whopping 17 rebounds and six blocked shots as the Scorpions roared into Saturday’s championship game with a 59-31 whipping of Longmont in the Class 4A final four.
Besides her play, she also sported bright turquoise, high-tip sneakers, perhaps visible from as far as away as Lyons.
So it had to be the shoes, right?
“Our team’s all about pop,” Davis of her and her styling teammates.
On Thursday, they also were all about good defense and rebounding, ball movement, showing some athleticism and finishing. The Scorpions (23-3) were thorough, displayed some balance and are going after their first title. Their defense held Longmont to zero points in the third quarter.
“All along, we knew we could do it,” Davis said.
However, said coach Frank Haist, don’t forget that the Scorpions began the season 4-3.
Haist said this team and season were “about giving (his players) some structure and letting them play. It was hard for me to let them play. But a lot of our girls are instinctual.”
Oliana Squires led the way with 16 points and Moriah Ceballes added 12.
Sydney Wetterstrom led Longmont (20-7) with 19.
