, and the first series’ first standalone movie, “Rogue One,” is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced in a shareholders meeting on Thursday.
“Rogue One” will be directed by Gareth Edwards (“Monsters,” “Godzilla”) and written by Chris Weitz (“About a Boy,” “Antz”). Felicity Jones (“The Theory of Everything”) is a part of the cast.
Episode VIII is directed by Rian Johnson (“The Brothers Bloom,” “Looper”).
