A Denver jury on Thursday convicted a man of assaulting and raping a woman more than 20 years ago.
Donald R. Shores, 56, was found guilty of first-degree sexual assault, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Shores assaulted and raped a 67-year-old woman in the 2000 block of Colorado Boulevard on Sept. 6, 1994. The victim died in 2000 from cancer.
DNA evidence collected at the time of the assault was connected to Shores in June 2014, after s on drug charges.
Shores, who remains in custody, is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28.
