FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Larimer County is hiring a second technician to keep up with all the images being collected by police body cameras in Fort Collins.
District Attorney Cliff Riedel told county commissioners on Tuesday that an arrest for a single misdemeanor violation can lead to a gigabyte of data from all the officers involved. He said the one person charged with sorting, verifying and labeling all the camera data hasn’t been able to keep up with the amount of digital media that’s now part of investigations.
The Coloradoan (http://noconow.co/1OZsSSq ) newspaper reports that the workload will grow as Fort Collins begins to expand the number of officers wearing body cameras and if other county agencies also start using them. State lawmakers are also considering providing grants for the cameras.
