It should come as no surprise the pre-trial costs for investigating and prosecuting James Holmes in the Aurora theater shooting already

But the tab is much more than what has been released, and the taxpaying public has a right to know what it is paying for.

One big problem: The Public Defender’s Office refuses to disclose expenses for defending Holmes, citing attorney-client privilege.

Further, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and FBI have refused to release their figures.

It is understood the costs will be heavy to adjudicate this horrible crime. But the public should know the magnitude of the tab.
