DishWorld ditched the Dish moniker Friday and renamed itself to Sling International to build on its recent launch of Sling TV alternative TV service.
International subscribers get access to 200 channels in 18 languages with plans starting at $10 a month. But this isn’t as simple as Sling TV.
It’s more like … la carte TV. Pick a basic plan — starting at $10 a month for Spanish, $20 for Urdu, $30 for Arabic, etc. If you want multiple languages, you must order multiple base plans. Some languages offer additional channel tiers for a fee. But a base plan doesn’t give users access to other tiers. World Sports, for example, is not available to the $10 Spanish plan subscribers.
International users can add regular Sling TV to the same account for $20 a month. Likewise, Sling TV subscribers can add any language plan.
In 2013, Dish Network used DishWorld to experiment with streaming live TV. It found that existing international satellite TV subscribers didn’t cancel service in favor of streaming only. Instead, DishWorld attracted new customers.
