LOVELAND — Larimer County sheriff’s officials will not release the name of the victim who died in an officer-involved shooting Friday afternoon until later in the investigation, a dispatcher said Saturday.

However, the Loveland Police Department on Saturday released the names of the two officers involved in the incident. Both have been placed on administrative leave.

Officer Ben DeLima and Detective Henry Stucky are the two officers, each of whom has been with Loveland police for 10 years, according to a news release. DeLima is assigned to the patrol division, and Stucky is assigned to the criminal investigations unit.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, as is protocol in officer-involved shootings.

Friday’s shooting occurred in the 400 block of Southeast Eighth Street in unincorporated Larimer County. The victim, who a close friend said was in his early 30s and was trained as an emergency medical technician, died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.

One of the officers suffered minor injuries from a physical altercation, but authorities have not indicated which officer.

Initial reports had identified the death as a suicide before more information was released. A statement from the sheriff’s office late Friday stated that the police officers were at the location to question a suspect in reference to a criminal investigation. It was initially reported that the investigation was in relation to a bank robbery, but that was later corrected.

Loveland police said they weren’t releasing additional information on the incident.
