The Desayuno Fuerte is one of the star dishes at Zaidy’s Deli in Cherry Creek. (Photo by William Porter)
has long been a popular spot in Cherry Creek, drawing regulars to the family-run room at 121 Adams St. It’s not unusual to see groups of eight on some mornings, all huddled around a table kibbitzing about politics, sports, whatever. The waitresses are veteransm some chatty, others more, shall we say, taciturn.
The restaurant does a brisk breakfast business, thanks to such staples as pastrami scrambles, Nova lox and exemplary hash browns. Me, I often go for the Desayuno Fuerte. This house special is a super-savory mix of goodies atop a thin, perfectly browned potato latke. The pancake is piled with a hot tangle of sauteed spinach, onions, diced tomatoes and garlic, then two poached eggs dusted with grated parmesan.
Naturally, you get a bagel and schmear with it. I always opt for the chewy sesame bagel, loading it with cream cheese.
Mazel tov to that!
