This year’s Rugby World Cup is in England, but the home team is coming to Glendale to train at high altitude, Mayor Mike Dunafon announced Monday.

“I’m happy to announce that the English World Cup team is training in Glendale, Colo., at the only high altitude training facility in the world,” Dunafon said.

The English team will be in Glendale for two weeks starting July 13, according to a team spokeswoman Verity Williams.

Infinity Park’s high-altitude training facility features a high-performance strength and conditioning room, recovery room and video classroom, adjacent to two full-size sports fields.

The world cup will be played Sept. 17-Oct. 31 in England. New Zealand hosted and won the tournament in 2011, something England, which last won the championship in 2003, would like to duplicate.
