A man who fired a gun at Denver police officers while sitting handcuffed in the back of a police vehicle pleaded guilty Thursday to attempted first-degree murder.
Isaac Vigil, 33, fired at the officers May 14 as he was being arrested on a felony warrant related to drug charges, the district attorney’s office said Friday in a news release.
Vigil was at the Denver police District 4 station and sitting in the back of a police car when he fired the gun — which he had hidden — at the officers. Police fired back, critically wounding Vigil.
No officers were injured in the exchange.
Vigil initially was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and possession of a defaced firearm.
Vigil remains in custody at the city’s Downtown Detention Center and is scheduled to be sentenced May 21.
