A Larimer County sheriff’s deputy who last month allegedly crashed through a fence while driving to work in uniform and then drove away has been fired from his job as a jail guard.
The crash happened March 29 in Loveland when Sgt. Isaac Nail was driving to work in his personal vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup truck. Nail was issued a summons by police after the crash.
Nail was fired on Friday after 19 years at the sheriff’s office, according to a Monday news release.
The sheriff’s office said in the release that Nail was placed on paid administrative leave as police in Loveland investigated the wreck and the sheriff’s office completed its internal inquiry.
“The internal investigation concluded that Sgt. Nail’s actions were in violation of Colorado Statute and (sheriff’s office) policies,” the release said.
A Loveland police report said Nail told officers “he was on his way to work when his pager went off” before the crash, . When asked why he left the scene, Nail replied, “That’s a good question,” the report says.
