A degree in three?
Getting out of college in three years isn’t the answer to the problems created by the extraordinarily high cost of a college education, but it’s certainly a move in the right direction.
The University of Colorado is a new initiative that puts college students on track to get an undergraduate degree a year early.
The move could save motivated students a lot of money. The annual cost of attendance for in-state students in the arts and sciences is more than $25,000, when living expenses and other fees are counted.
Shave off an entire year, and we’re talking real money.
Of course, there are asterisks involved. Ideally, students will have come to CU with credits from high school work in Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programs or concurrent enrollment in community colleges.
And they might have to take classes in the summer or even load up with extra work during the regular school year.
But for those looking for ways to reduce their student debt, it would still be an attractive option.
