The Colorado State men’s basketball program hasn’t wasted any time in rebuilding its frontcourt.
Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy announced Thursday that the paperwork had arrived and 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward Kimani Jackson has signed with the Rams.
Jackson, originally from Arlington, Texas, played last season at New Mexico Junior College and will have three years of eligibility at CSU. The recruiting website ranked Jackson as the nation’s top power forward prospect at the junior-college level.
During the November signing period, Colorado State landed 6-8, 210-pound Emmanuel Omogbo from South Plains (Junior) College in Levelland, Texas. Omogbo recently earned second-team junior college All-America honors.
Jackson and Omogbo will get an opportunity to replace the top two scorers off CSU’s 27-7 team of this past season, forwards J.J. Avila (16.7) and Stanton Kidd (11.6). The lone returning frontcourt starter is 6-7 Tiel Daniels (5.7).
“We knew adding a big body with some experience would be crucial,” CSU coach Larry Eustachy said of Jackson in a news release. “(Jackson) has tremendous upside.”
CSU also signed 6-10 Nico Carvacho in November. Toby Van Ry (6-10) from from Fort Collins High School practiced with the Rams while redshirting as a freshman.
The spring signing period began Wednesday and runs through May 20. CSU is expected to add 6-4 shooting guard C.J. Keyser of Sunrise Christian Prep in Kansas. The Rams signed two other high school guards in November.
