An apartment complex in Aurora was on lockdown for nearly six hours Friday as police monitored a gunman barricaded inside.
Shortly after 2 p.m., the male suspect was taken into custody. He has not been identified at this time.
According to Aurora police, officers received reports at 8:13 a.m. of shots fired outside the Sonoma Resort at Saddle Rock Apartments on the 22200 block of East Ottawa Drive.
When police arrived on the scene, they heard additional shots fired inside the apartment, according to Sgt. Chris Amsler. The gunman remained inside for nearly six hours before being taken into custody.
“We contained the area,” Amsler said. “We called in our SWAT team, and we sent out a reverse 911 telling inhabitants to shelter in place.”
Nearby Grandview High School was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution but has since been removed from the perimeter. Amsler said buildings near the apartment complex were on lockdown as well.
