A collapsed slope has thrown a construction project — and drivers — in Evergreen for a loop.

According to Jefferson County officials, a section of Colorado Highway 74 between County Road 73 and Upper Bear Creek Road will remain completely closed, approximately until Friday, because of the collapse, which occurred while contractors were excavating in the area.

The initial plan called for the stretch of Colorado 74 to be closed between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Once the slope has been stabilized, work will be resumed on the original project, repairing bridge piers in the area. At that point, the road will only be closed during the day.
