
A former Johnstown town councilman was arrested last week and charged with 28 felonies, including theft, fraud and forgery, in what Weld County prosecutors say is a pattern case in violation of the state’s organized crime act.
The Weld County Sheriff’s Office arrested 55-year-old Clair Hull on Thursday. He is accused of racketeering in a violation of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, according to the county district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors announced the arrest and charges in a news release issued Monday.
Hull, who served on the town council between 2006 and 2011, posted $750,000 bail and was released, .
The television station reports that authorities allege Hull was writing and cashing fraudulent checks and fake invoices through his business, Pioneer Specialty Foods, and another shell company based in Los Angeles.
Hull is due in court on May 12 in the case for a first appearance.
