An inmate who physically resisted and spit on deputies last September during a confrontation at the Larimer County jail has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
The county sheriff’s office said Thursday the sentence for Michael David Jose, 33, was handed down May 1.
Jose was told he was being moved to a different housing assignment on Sept. 27 when he refused to cooperate and spit on three corrections deputies, the office said.
Jose was charged with three counts of second-degree assault in the encounter. Court records show he was convicted of the charges during a two-day trial in March.
The sheriff’s office says Jose also was ordered to serve parole upon the completion of his sentence.
A spokeswoman for county prosecutors did not return to a message seeking comment.
