A 68-year-old Lakewood man was sentenced Thursday to 16 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting two girls and a boy who were in his care.
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office said Richard Henry Threlkeld was convicted in March on three counts of sexual assault on a child under 15 by a person in a position of trust for numerous assaults between 2009 and 2013.
The assaults started when the girls were 7 and 10 years old and the boy was 8, and happened at Threlkeld’s Lakewood home and in his camper in Monument, the district attorney’s office said.
“We hope this brings some justice for these young children,” District Attorney Pete Weir said in a statement. “Each of them took the stand and testified against their abuser. That is true courage.”
The children were related to Threlkeld and were often left in his care with their parents’ permission.
