Push the players. When are the Rockies going to hire a real major-league manager? As nice a guy as Walt Weiss might be, what this team needs is someone who can push players if they don’t perform.
Joe, Denver
Kiz: What’s wrong with the Rockies is not Weiss, it’s pitching. When Colorado made the head-scratching move to sign Kyle Kendrick, now on pace to become only the second pitcher in major-league history to surrender at least 50 home runs in a season, I began to have serious doubts about the baseball acumen of new general manager Jeff Bridich. But Weiss is the poor fool assigned to take the slow walk from the dugout to remove awful Colorado pitchers from the game, and I’m afraid that’s why Weiss will be fixed in the sights of fingers pointed in blame when the Rockies start looking for a scapegoat.

Good heart, bad head. As a longtime Denver baseball fan, it ticks me off this city supports the Rockies ownership of Dick and Charlie Monfort. Besides one crazy streak to the World Series and a couple of OK years, it has been a disaster. I blame ownership, not altitude. Rip the Monforts. Really lay into them and the fans buying tickets to support them.
Skip, playing hardball
Kiz: Dick Monfort does care. But the problem is he’s clueless about baseball, is too stubborn to get out of the way and apparently doesn’t even know where to look for quality front-office help.
Sambrailo a bust? Let me help you out with what is going on with the Broncos’ draft. John Elway is a horrible judge of college talent. If anybody cared to scout the Senior Bowl, it would be apparent that second-round pick Ty Sambrailo lacks the core strength to play right tackle. He cannot anchor, and NFL pass rushers will be able to go through him. Sambrailo will be a bust.
Peter, Denver
Kiz: We here at Kickin’ It Headquarters are not ready to declare Sambrailo a bust, but he was a reach. Heck, we’re rooting for Sambrailo, who was a large part of the Colorado State football program’s recent success. But his skill set does seem ill-suited to play right tackle in the NFL. If he plays extensive snaps as a rookie, here’s guessing it will probably be at left guard, where his quick feet should be an asset.
Shame on Tom Brady. And today’s parting shot takes Tom Brady the father to task.
The NFL should suspend Brady. I disagree that what’s done is done. Take away the Vince Lombardi trophy, his rings and honor, because there is no honor in cheating. When children cheat, they are punished. How does Brady have the gall to face his children?
Suzanne, terrifically miffed
